The United States Postal Service filed notice of price changes to take effect January 26, 2020. The proposed changes would raised Mailing Services product prices by approximately 1.9 percent, and Shipping Services price increases would vary by product.
Priority Mail Express would increase 3.5 percent and Priority mail would increase approximately 4.1 percent. The Governors believe new rates will help keep the Postal Service competitive while providing the agency with additional revenue.
If these changes are approved, the new prices will not change the price of “Forever Stamps,” which will still be 55 cents. Single-piece letter additional ounce price will also remain unaffected, at 15 cents. Prices of postcard stamps would remain 35 cents.
Proposed Price Changes:
Mailing Services prices for Letters (1 oz.) will remain 55 cents, letters (metered 1 oz.) will also be priced the same at 50 cents, flats (1 oz.) will remain one dollar, and domestic postcards will stay 35 cents. The only impact the proposed changes will have on Mailing Services will be on outbound international letters (1 oz.), which will raise from $1.15 to $1.20.
The proposed domestic Priority Mail Flat Rate Retail price changes will have more of an impact. Small flat-rate boxes will increase from $7.90 to $8.30. Medium flat-rate boxes will increase from $14.35 to $15.05. Large flat-rate boxes will change from $19.95 to 21.10. APO/FPO large flat-rate boxes will increase to $19.60. Legal flat-rate envelopes will be priced at $8.05. Padded flat-rate envelopes will increase from $8.00 to $8.40.
The Postal Service has some of the lowest postage rates. These proposed prices will be reviewed before they are scheduled to take effect on January 26, 2020.
